Program Chairs Welcome

The conference is the outcome of our shared dream: to advance both Indian scholarship, as well as scholarship on India. With the help of an amazing group of colleagues around the world, and sponsors who have stepped forward to make the dream a reality, we are delighted to present the SMS India Conference.

We are experiencing what may be the defining phenomenon of this century, namely a shift in the center of gravity to emerging economies. Businesses in India, both domestic and foreign, are redefining global industries through innovations in product, process and business models. However, much of this is anecdotal, and outside the scope of mainstream discussions and research in business schools in the West. Simultaneously, although research has become a hot button issue in Indian business schools, many are looking for ways to leapfrog the learning curve on research competencies. Having experienced this in our India-based research and teaching engagements, we felt the need to create a platform where B-school leaders, scholars and doctoral students from around the world can engage with their Indian counterparts, and with leaders of India Inc., to co-learn from one another, and to define an ambitious research agenda that can help propel the next stage of inquiry in the field of strategy.

Focusing on innovation, this conference will bring together an international group of over 500 scholars, executives, and leaders of corporations and business schools from around the world for three days of intense interaction, learning, and networking. Designed around four sets of events, the conference has already attracted some of the most renowned strategy scholars from around the world, as well as corporate leaders who have put India on the global map.

Conference highlights include:

Doctoral, Junior Faculty Consortia & Senior Faculty Consultative Workshop:

World renowned scholars from leading business schools around the world will be engaging with over 100 of the brightest Indian academics and doctoral students. Through this platform, we expect that new collaborations will form, fresh ideas will emerge, and tomorrow's thought leaders will be trained, motivated and energized.

Four Plenary Panels:

Corporate leaders, who are putting India on the global map and are some of India’s biggest success stories, will engage with world renowned strategy scholars and thought-leaders to discuss:

  • a. Business Model innovations from India
  • b. Globalization Models from Indian Multinationals
  • c. Leadership and Talent Development: The Indian Story
  • d. Tapping into India’s Brain Power: Multinational Innovation in India

Research Paper Sessions

Over 100 research papers and panels that explore several emerging issues in strategic management.

Deans' Panel and Conclave

A signature event for and by business school leaders from around the world, in conjunction with their Indian counterparts, to explore how emerging markets can inform the future of management education and research.

The conference is thus designed to (a) provide a platform for Indian academics and doctoral students to engage with leading strategy scholars from around the world, (b) to show case business model innovations emerging from India, and (c) to bring together leadership from US/Europe/Indian B-Schools in a Deans' Conclave to explore ways in which emerging markets can become an integral part of the dialog.

Come. Participate. Experience. Build with us a new era of strategy scholarship in and on India!
