Welcome From The Conference Convenor

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Strategic Management Society, I welcome you to participate in a special conference December 12-14, 2008, hosted by the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, India. The conference theme is, "Emerging India: Strategic Innovation In A Flat World."

As Indian firms emerge into the global scene, they bring with them their unique brand of innovative practice. Some of these are radically new ways of organizing and leveraging resources globally, while others are breaking new grounds in offering products and services at price points and quality never envisaged before. Simultaneously, Indian firms are facing hurdles in their rapid growth, as they transition from domestic to global players.

The rise of India poses opportunities as well as fundamental challenges both to academics and strategists. While access to potentially one billion customers poses large untapped opportunities, the very unique milieu in India is requiring a re-thinking of strategic tenets. The conference will provide a platform for an effective dialogue and interaction between and among researchers, academic leaders, and business executives, both in India and overseas.

I am also pleased to introduce Charles Dhanaraj from University of Western Ontario and MB Sarkar from Temple University who as co-chairs will be taking the prime lead for the conference, along with Rishikesha Krishnan from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Sougata Ray from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Please find much more information about the conference and the call for proposals on these webpages.

I sincerely hope you will be able join us at the conference and help create new frontiers in strategic thinking.
